What does Beatnik Hiway provide?
It publishes a reviewed San Francisco dataset about literary and counterculture places, with source-linked claims, dated review information, and bounded planning tools. The same snapshot is available through HTML, JSON, REST, and MCP.
How fresh is the information?
Each claim has a review timestamp and a freshness policy. A current HTTP response only means the service handled the request; it is not a live-open, live-closure, or historical-uptime guarantee.
What sources are used?
The current production release uses the official San Francisco Planning / DataSF Landmarks dataset for reviewed place metadata. Source URLs, publisher identity, retrieval time, review state, and reuse limits are exposed with the relevant records.
Is authentication required?
Small public reads are available anonymously. A scoped Bearer API key can provide a higher quota and usage access; it does not change the dataset's evidence or rights rules.
Can API traffic block the website pages?
The browser-rendered HTML surface uses a separate 2,000-unit anonymous monthly budget from the 500-unit REST/MCP machine budget. Both remain rate-limited, and successful query-free pages are edge-cached; exhausting machine API quota should not lock the site's main navigation.
Can the tools book, buy, send, or modify anything?
No. The published tools are read-only and synchronous. They do not purchase tickets, make bookings, send email, create third-party accounts, or publish user material.
What should an agent do when a request fails?
Use the HTTP status and structured error code. A 429 includes retry timing; a validation error should be corrected rather than retried unchanged; an empty search is a successful statement about this dataset, not proof that the entity does not exist in the world.
Can published text or images be reused freely?
No. Exports carry source and rights context. The release publishes short structured metadata and links, not source descriptions, images, or protected quotations; third-party reuse still requires the applicable permission and attribution.
